Copenhagen Meatballs

Recipe from Grandma Mavis

Ingredients

Meatballs
  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/2 Pound Ground Pork Sausage
  • 3/4 Cup Bread Crumbs
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 Whole Egg, Beaten
  • 1/2 Cup Cold Water
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
Sauce
  • 3 Tablespoons Drippings From Meatballs
  • 4 Tablespoons Flour
  • 1 Whole Envelope Dehydrated Onion Soup
  • 2 2/3 Cups Water
  • 2/3 Cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Pepper

Directions

  1. Mix all meatball ingredients well and shape into small meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Brown in butter or shortening in a heavy and large skillet about 8-10 minutes until done.
  2. Remove meatballs and prepare sauce in skillet.
  3. Return meatballs to sauce. Cover and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
